In honor of my grandparents' 70th wedding anniversary, I am using my first blog post to share something very dear to my heart - a collection of images and an interview with my grandparents, Bud & Bette Miller.
My grandparent's are easily two of the most adorable and hilarious people I know. Even though I knew a lot about them, there were many major life events I was unaware of, and many questions I had never asked. So, I decided make time to sit down with them and have a conversation about their lives - and I wanted to document it - to preserve it. My brother offered to help with the interview, and we asked our dad to join us, as Bud & Bette are his parents. They contributed greatly to this project; I value their collaboration, as it wouldn’t have been the same without them.
With a camera & voice recorder, we had a 2 hour conversation about their lives. I transcribed the conversation and put it into a book along with the collection of photographs. We presented the book to my grandparent's for my grandpa's 90th birthday. Everyone is our family has a copy of this book and it is gift we will always cherish. Within the book are many personal moments and memories - some that make us laugh and some that make us cry - and many that we can refer to for insight and inspiration.
I am grateful for the moments I have with my grandparents, and for the chance to learn more about them. Time gets away from us, and it's hard to be present in this world. However, we have to practice — practice being present - practice communication- practice empathy - practice compassion- practice growth and intention. All of these practices strengthen our relationships and allow us to connect with the people we love.
This is my proudest moment and accomplishment as a photographer. It means so much to me, and I would love to share this gift with other people. If you want to collaborate and document some special people and moments in your life, please reach out. I would love to make this happen for you.
Below are a few snippets from the book.
I hope you enjoy!
